In order to manually configure Rule Updates mechanisemdownload the files required for rule updates:

 (This procedure will be relevant for servers in internal networks OR with limited access to Internet)

1. Go to http://www.applicure.com/updaterules/version.txt and see which version was published last.
The latest version currently is 2011.08.07.100

Please notice you can view the latest version installed on your dotDefender by clicking on "Rule updates" in the left panel bar.

2. Download the files found under www.applicure.com/updaterules/file-name

For example, in order to download the bp-2011.08.07.XXX.tgz file, you will need to access the page :
"www.applicure.com/updaterules/bp-2011.08.07.100.tgz"

Please notice you can save the files in any location you wish. All files should exist in the same folder!

That said, you will have to make sure that other dotDefender(s) CAN reach to that chosen location.

The files you need in order to configure the rule updates are:

- version.txt - Contains current version of best practice (currently it is 2011.08.07.XXX).

- bp-2011.08.07.XXX.tgz - The Best Practices file itself.

- summary-2011.08.07.XXX.txt - Can contain any content you wish. Its content will be displayed in the GUI, in description field.

- Index.html – Contains whatever you want to. It's just for a display when browsing to the directory with these files.

3. Configure from the designated dotDefender GUI the location of the files.
(This can be done by clicking on "Rule updates" in the left panel and than under "Update Preferences" Check "Local site")
Insert the location of the files in the “Local Site” field (For example: http://10.200.10.1/dD-Files/)

Congratulation! You have now updated dotDefender to collect the Rules from your chosen location!
